Plastic Paint
Sunday July 20, 2003
I love discovering new products. The other day I saw a commercial for a new type of spray paint made just for plastics. It's called Krylon Fusion, and we found it at our local Walmart. It cost about the same as regular spray paint, requires no sanding or priming, and it dries in about 15 minutes.
This is a before and after picture of our plastic motorcycle fender. As you can see, the fender had some deep
scratches. We applied two light coats of the Fusion and it covered up the scratches well. This would be great for your kid's toys, like plastic wagons, playhouses, slides and swings. You could even find bargain-priced toys at yard sales, spray paint them, and no one would know they weren't brand-new.

I have dirtbike fenders I want to paint but fusion does not have my right color red, its too dark. Can you tell me the specific name of the color you used? thank you redraider33@hotmail.com
Yeah, I picked some up to paint my computer case. It leaves a nice finish if you apply it in several light coats.
I tested it on an old lawn chair first… I recommend light sanding anyway, as it seemed to adhere better, and allow for heavier coats without runs. A good tip if you’re impatient and would prefer 4 heavier coats instead of 8 light ones.
It’s available in gloss and matte, but the gloss is much nicer! Very hard to scratch, but I’d give it several coats of laquer for a durable finish. That way, if you do manage to scuff it, you will only be gouging the clear-coat, which makes it very easy to touch up.
I tried cracking it by bending the plastic, too- It holds up well! I had to bend up to 90 degrees before seeing any discoloration at all.
It’s great for touching up old stuff as well as new. It’s a high-quality finish if you put the time in, so don’t limit this product to junk alone. Anything plastic will turn out beautiful if you want it to.
I bought some of this paint for my old lawn chairs and side tables and they came out looking like new. I bought the “nickel” color and it coved all the old ugly fading and the enbedded scratches as well. I just love it, I plan to buy more to finish up all my lawn furniture. It also works well on old plastic flower pots. Great product!!
