All About Stains Survey

Saturday July 26, 2003
In the 'all' About Stains Survey*, the majority of mothers, 67 percent, say that summer is the number one season for food stains in their family. And 41 percent are throwing away clothing without even attempting to get out the stain!

More survey responses:
  • And the winner is ... - Barbecue sauce and ice pops share the title of number one summer food or drink stain, receiving 26 percent of the vote each. Hot dogs with ketchup and/or mustard followed close behind at 23 percent. Chocolate ice cream came in third with 15 percent.
  • Stain. What stain? - 52 percent of mothers surveyed said they have pretended not to see a stain on their clothes because ignoring it was easier than changing. The same goes for stains on their family's clothing; 45 percent have ignored a stain on a family member's clothing.
  • If at first you don't succeed - 76 percent of mothers will wash a stained piece of clothing two to three times before throwing in the towel.
*KRC Research conducted a nationally representative online panel survey of 1005 mothers with children under 18 who are at sometime responsible for doing laundry in their household. The survey was conducted April 16-22, 2003. The margin of error for this study is +/- 3% at the 95% confidence level.
