Washing Soda
Monday August 18, 2003
I'm a big fan of washing soda for tough, greasy cleaning jobs around the house. Washing soda is also a laundry booster and helps remove stubborn stains, such as chocolate, blood and grass, that laundry alone can't remove.
For those of you who have never heard of washing soda, you can usually find it in the detergents and cleaners aisle at your grocery store. Washing soda is also known as sodium carbonate, or soda ash. According to About.com's Inventors site, sodium carbonate is a mixture of "common salt, ammonia, carbon dioxide (CO2) and lime". Washing soda can irritate the skin, so you should wear rubber gloves when using it. For usage tips, visit Arm & Hammer's Laundry Basket to learn more about washing soda.
