Baking Soda and Forgotten Laundry

Wednesday October 8, 2003
Have you ever left a load of clothes in the washer too long and it starts smelling musty and sour? I think it happens to all of us from time to time. Myrna sent this email with a great baking soda tip for that forgotten laundry.

"I was a busy working mom with three children and sometimes I forgot to take the laundry out of the washer. If it was hot weather and it got musty smelling, well, I'd rewash it and put it in the dryer. One day I said, "I'm not going to rewash". I put them in the dryer, grabbed some baking soda and sprinkled it in the dryer and turned on the dryer. They came out smelling fresh. I discovered this about 20 years ago. I believe I discovered it on my own; I do not ever remember reading this one. I do know baking soda is a great water softener which makes detergent work better and makes the bath bubbles bubble." - Myrna
