Bagged or Bagless: Vacuum Cleaner

From our discussion forum, Marsha asks, "My poor vacuum "bit the dust" literally; I need a new vacuum. We have been looking at both bagless and bagged. I am totally indecisive about which way to go. Does anyone have some good advice, good experience, anything? We heard that with the bagless you need to rinse out the filter every time you vacuum? Is that true? What about brand?
