My kids have been back in school for a few weeks now, and I have to say, I HATE homework. I wonder, am I the only one? They are in school all day, then they come home, get to play and unwind for a bit, then we have to do homework. It can take up to an hour. They don't like it, and they don't understand WHY they have it after being in school all day. Frankly, I don't understand why, either. I guess, I wouldn't mind if the assignment was to read for half an hour each night, but homework really just adds stress to our lives, interferes with "family time", really. Seems like every night is play a bit, homework, dinner , bedtime. - Barb

I feel for you.I would love to hear what the others think about this. I had the same problem last year. I talked to the teacher. which helped a little. how about the rule of 10 minutes per grade in school? Good luck! - Penny
I know what you mean. My son has came home on the first Monday back with so much homework, it took us 3 hours to get through it and he is only in 2nd grade. Of course I have to say that he only had homework one other night that week and it took 15 minutes but still. The next week there was a little less but it still took over an hour. I understand that kids need to do some work in the (so-called) quiet of home with the support (and help) of their parents but kids are kids and need a chance to play. I feel bad making my son sit down straight off the bus and doing his schoolwork but by the time he finished on that first night it was an hour past bedtime. - Aubra
Hasn't it always been that way? How else do kids learn? Maybe we are just spoiled. Too much other stuff we want to do. Homework gets in the way of our favorite TV shows. It could be that there is so much other stuff going on in school, unnecessary stuff. Instead of learning in school the kids have to learn at home? The teachers leave the teaching up to the parents. Possible? I think it was easier many years ago. We had very little to do compared to now days. Had a few games and toys, but no TV, no video games, no telephones that worked, cars that only ran when they felt like it, etc. No place to go so we stayed home. Our schools are screwed up just like most of society. - Dtrelstad
