Home-Based Business
Watkins

Many stay-at-home parents have contacted me expressing an interest in home-based business opportunities. So, this week, guest author Leslie Hickman has volunteered to write about her experience working at-home as a Watkins Representative. This is the first article in what I hope becomes an ongoing series of "testimonials" from other parents about their home-based business experiences.

(Note: I do not necessarily endorse this home-based business. Before starting any business, it is best to do a lot of research and contact others who are involved with the business. Leslie Hickman can be reached at leslieh@qualitysince1868.com.)

Watkins - A Home Based Business
by Leslie Hickman

Hello, I am the mother of three children: Andrew (5), Meghan (3) and Amanda (13 months). We live in beautiful northern Vermont where the summers are cool, the autumns are beautiful, and the winters are long! (Sometimes too long!) But, I love it! I spend most of my days working on my home, baking, cooking and taking care of my children. I am also a very active member of my church and I volunteer to visit new mothers and help them with the first few days of being home alone with their babies.

I had no idea that I would be joining Watkins and starting my own business when I asked my sponsor, Shannon, for more information about Watkins. What a wonderful move for me, though! As soon as I received the catalog and information on becoming a representative in the mail, I knew that Watkins was a great opportunity! The products are all things that I use every day. From household cleaners to air fresheners to shampoo.

I didn't really need to give it much thought. The quality of the products is exceptional and everything is 100% guaranteed. Also, the start up costs are very affordable. $29.95 + tax and shipping for the start up kit. My sponsor called the order in for me and I had an ID number that day! The welcome kit comes with several samples, a starter supply of catalogs, and a reference guide to get you started! Furthermore, there is NO QUOTA. You don't need to sell a certain amount per month, or per year. You can actually just use it as a discount buying club if you choose, with at least 28% off your order. Every household spends money each month on cleaners and spices and baking goods. I just switched my spending to Watkins where I get a discount on quality products.

I come from a very diverse background. I graduated college with a Bachelor of Science degree in English and Elementary Education. After teaching for 2 ½ years in an elementary school, I was drawn to becoming an MD. I went back to school for 3 years to finish my pre-med work. One week after taking the Medical College Admissions Test, I discovered I was pregnant with my third child! What a surprise! It was hard enough finding time for my husband and two children with the pre-med work, so with three little ones I decided that my medical career would need to be put on hold. I just couldn't go on sacrificing my family time.

Now, as a work at home mom, the hours that I work with Watkins are flexible. I can work around my husband, children and household chores. The best part is that I am making money and can still take the kids to the playground in the afternoon and take a day to go on class trips or be a room mother at the school. All these things I could not have done with a regular 9-5 job.

Watkins offers many ways to earn income, as they place very few restrictions on how you market their products. Some options are door-to-door sales, catalog sharing, Party Plan, fundraising, fairs - the sky is the limit! In fact, the only real "limitation" is that our products are never to be sold in retail stores.

Furthermore, the potential is unlimited! I can make this as successful as I want it to be. In the next few months I plan on building my business by gaining new customers, and sponsoring new representatives. My goal is to achieve Director status by the summer of 1999.

Thank you for taking the time to learn about my new career. If you are interested in trying this home business, I look forward to discussing Watkins with you and answering any questions you may have. I am the newest member of a line of very dedicated sponsors. Marie, Shannon and I are all interested as much in your success as you will be. We have a great team, and would love for you to join us!
