| Guides of About.com | |
Not surprisingly, many of the Guides (and former Guides) here at About.com are stay-at-home/work-at-home parents. Meet five of our fellow at-home parents this week, and please stop-by and visit their sites.
Cathy Gallagher, About.com Seattle WA.
Linda DeLaine, About.com Russian Culture and Annapolis, MD.
Ken Little, About.com Investing for Beginners.
Sharon Gillson, About.com Focus on AOL.

Debi Jenkins, About.com Classic TV
My name is Debi Jenkins and I am the About.com Guide to Classic TV. I
became the Guide in May of 1998. I am the mother of two year old Emily
Grace. My favorite part about being home is staying with Emily. When she naps, I work on my site. I love being a Guide! I also design Web pages as a small home business, Debi's Web Design.
Hi, I'm Cathy Gallagher, the at-home mother of 3 children, ages
10, 3 and 2. I've been an Work-At-Home-Mom (WAHM) since 1996
when I discovered the wonderful world of the Internet. I've been
a guide at About.com since March 1998, first as the book
collecting guide, now as the About.com Guide to Mysteries. My
husband and I also jointly guide the Seattle, Washington site.
I'm thrilled that the Internet (and About.com) give me the
ability to actively raise my children myself while still having
the ability to connect with people about subjects for which I
have a passion (and get paid too!).
I have three girls, ages 17, 14 and 8 and have found it to be a real blessing to be able to be home for and with them since they were each born. My husband is in the Navy and, up until about 2 years ago was able to provide a second income for us as a church musician. However, he finally got lucky and got a ship, so it was my turn to fill this income gap alone. That's when I came across, then, Mining Company, learned html, web design, e-commerce, etc. Currently I have two main businesses, in addition to my About.com sites. They are Lin's WebDesign and The Artshop of St. Petersburg, Russia. Both are growing slowly but steadily and I'm enjoying the work.
My name is Ken Little and I am a stay-at-home dad. My primary job is
raising our 2 1/2 year-old daughter and looking after two stepsons ages 10
and 13. I have been a stay-at-home dad for about 18 months, since my wife
took a call as a pastor. In addition to my About.com work, I publish a
quarterly newspaper for a national Presbyterian Family Ministry
organization. I am also writing a book on fathers and daughters. I have
just begun a web design business. But my main job remains taking care of
the house and kids.
My name is Sharon Gillson, and I am the mother of four children, ages 22,
20, 16, and 13, and wife to Jerry. I am a freelance writer, and a amateur
web site designer. One of the projects I'm working on is the Focus on AOL
site, which I have been doing since Sept. 1999. I also write a monthly
column on Autism for Suite101.com.
My interest here stems from
having three children diagnosed with autism. My freelance writing, besides
letting me indulge in something I love doing, affords me the opportunity to
contribute to the family's income while allowing me to stay at home.
