Here are some frugal tips that other stay-at-home parents have shared with us.
From Diana:
Try valupage.com for supermarket savings. You print out the list of featured items (you can even edit it to save your printer cartridge and paper) and have the cashier scan it. Then, for each featured item you buy, the checkout printer prints web bucks, which you can use on ANYTHING you purchase on your next visit. Sometimes there are even hidden specials or coupons that print out that weren't listed. I regularly earn $5 or more per week that just comes off the top of my bill the next time I shop.
From Karen:
If you are doing laundry, try to keep the momentum up. Drying clothes in an already warmed up drying cuts the time and the energy needed to dry the next load.
Also we installed a pole rod in our laundry room and hang up all the shirts and especially the jeans. That way you don't have to worry about shrinkage and you don't have the run the dryer forever to get the jeans dry!
From Mary Beth:
The next time you are in a doctor's office, check to see if they have any "giveaways". Sometimes they have samples of OTC drugs and I have gotten lots of notepads and other office-type products with prescription drug ads on them.
From Vickie:
Hit the freebie pages on the internet...we have gotten everything from free food and household items to free clothes.
From Christol:
I have actually seen HUGE savings from this one!!! Do not pay a little extra on all your credit cards every month. Instead, organize your credit cards according to the highest interest rate. Pay one dollar over the minimum on the lower cards and on the card with the highest interest rate, pay as much as you can. I saved over $4,000 in intrest using this system because it allowed me to pay my debts off 3 years earlier than just paying a little extra on all the cards.
I want to thank everyone for their tips and hints, and please keep them coming!
