Here are some frugal tips that other stay-at-home parents have shared with us.
Also to make baby clothes bigger; cut the feet off, and replace them with socks. this works really good. Cloth diapers really do save money, if you buy the cheap pre-folds and wash them 1-2 times a week. Planning is a big money saver! I don't try to buy anything on impulse. (Its hard, but I think we all know it works)
I want to thank everyone for their tips and hints, and please keep them coming!
Tiffany:
I use old baby wipes containers and sandwich size zipper baggies to store my expressed breast milk (make sure the baggies you buy don't have unsealed ends at the ends of their "zipper" tubes).
From Wendy:
I was being lazy one night and did not feel like dragging out the clear wrap to wrap the lettuce head and I did not have a plastic bag to toss it into. So I tossed the lettuce into a large tupperware container, closed the lid and placed it in the refrigerator. It was about a hectic week later I remembered it was there. Would you believe it was still fresh, not one bit brown or nasty. Great way to stretch the lettuce.
From Gretchen:
Having a baby soon. Try breastfeeding. Saves money, electricity and is totally free. I breastfed my first 2 (number 3 is due 2/1/00)and have also saved on Dr. bills because I strongly believe my kids aren't sick because I breastfed them. My oldest is 10 and in that many years has only been sick a total of 5 times. And my son who is now 2 has only had two head colds that last less than 5 days.
From Katie:
I have one son and I am a stay at home mom, and we live of a very low income and try to save anything. my mother has given me great tips on living frugal because I think back then you just had to live that way. ask grandparents or parents for tips.
From Sonya:
A bath is a wonderful outlet for us mothers. Try using milk in your bath, it's good for your skin. If you want an oil- try olive oil. If you want a scented bath just buy an essential oil smell that you prefer and add 3 drops to your bath. These essential oils can be added to milk or oil. This is natural and less expensive than any store brand bath oils.
