Your Frugal Tips
From our Readers: Page 19

Here are some frugal tips that other stay-at-home parents have shared with us.

From Carolyn:
Did you know that you can freeze milk? I found myself having to go to the store to buy milk a couple of times a week. My sister told me that she freezes hers. It sounded a little funny, so I called the dairy association and it is fine. I think they said you should use frozen milk in about three months. You just have to pour a little of the milk out (into another jug) before you freeze it, so that it doesn't expand and burst the plastic jug. It will look yellow when frozen, but will thaw out and look normal. It saves on grocery trips and I stock up when milk is on sale.

From Pamela:
I received several nice bottles of liquid hand soap from Bath and Body in gift baskets. I refill these with dish soap for the kitchen and bathroom sinks. It saves a TON over buying new bottles, and no one is the wiser!

From Trent:
We save money on bibs by using paper towels or large paper napkins to cover our childrens clothes at meal times. We use napkin clips to hold the paper bibs in place. You will save time and money on laundry as well as keeping stains off of clothes. The napkin clips fit in your pocket, so we always travel with them, too. They work for all ages.

From Siobhan:
Shop online!! In most cases you will save more money. CVS.com has great specials, drugstore.com has even more. To save on your grocery shopping check out hotcoupons.com and priceline.com.

From Reenie:
Before buying expensive jars of baby food, think about alternatives. For example, apples are really just applesauce.(I buy unsweetened) Bananas are very easy to mush up. So are canned pears and peaches. You can even give them a quick run in the blender and freeze in ice cube trays. This also works great for cooked vegetables. Just use the cooking water to thin. (the cooking water has a lot of the nutrients in it) Once the cubes are frozen, store them in freezer bags. I have saved a lot of money doing this.

I want to thank everyone for their tips and hints, and please keep them coming!
