Your Frugal Tips
From our Readers: Page 20

Here are some frugal tips that other stay-at-home parents have shared with us.

From KARISS:
If you have a cellular phone and your service from 7pm to 7am and also on weekends is free; use your cellular phone for local toll calls instead of your home telephone to avoid those local toll charges that add up very quickly.

From Carolyn:
Our family lives in British Columbia, and every winter we only get one or two severe snow storms,it rains the rest of the time.To save money and not end up buying new snow clothes for 3 kids every winter my husband and I shop at the thrift stores. We have outfitted the children every winter for about $50,compare that to buying new outfits every winter for 1 or 2 wears. When the kids grow out of the snow clothes I simply put them in the donation bin at church so someone else can use them also. Some of the clothes are next to new you just have to be very patient and diligent.

From Melissa:
Use contact paper to preserve your children's work and activity sheets. We use learning at home books to teach our son the basics and to save on making copies we just put clear contact paper on top and can use them over and over, clean them off and also make copies if needed. A roll costs about $6 but will save you lots and our son loves to erase and start over repeating it.

From Jennifer:
I bought a package of 6 thin, small wash clothes from Toys R Us and use these to clean up my son after he eats. I used to use paper towels and went through 1-2 per meal. They take up no space in the washer and I got my money back the first week.

From Tina:
We have saved a lot of money by having our kids wear "napkin clips" at meal times. These are little alligator clips that are on either end of a small chain that is placed around the neck at meal times. You can clip paper toweling, a large paper napkin, or even a sheet of newspaper to the clips and it will completely cover your child's clothing while eating. The napkin clips help keep clothes looking new and saves on laundry hassles, too. They are great to take with you in restaurants, too.

I want to thank everyone for their tips and hints, and please keep them coming!
