Your Frugal Tips
From our Readers: Page 22

Here are more frugal tips that other stay-at-home parents have shared with us.

From Kitty:
Use your long distance company to call the person you wish to chat with . See if they can talk for 20 minutes. If yes, hang up and dial access code 10-10-220. After 20 minutes, hang up and call again, or it's just 7 cents a minute after 20 minutes. This has reduced my phone bill from $120 a month to $50.00 on average.
From Katie:
Shop ahead of time! After all the holidays like Christmas, Valentine's Day, etc. all decorations, ornaments, wrapping, and gifts are on sale up to 75% off! I always stock up for the next year's season. Also, shop all year long for friends and family. Constantly watch for sales. I do Christmas shopping all year long starting with the day after Christmas. That gives me a year to find gifts for everyone on my list. It takes some planning ahead, but saves the last minute stress of finding the perfect gift.
From Holly:
A cheap and easy way to clean your mirrors is to use newspaper and alcohol. Just fill a spray bottle with 1/2 alcohol and 1/2 water. Spray them mirror then wipe with the newspaper. You will have shiny, clean mirrors.
From Lee:
I love my coupons. I can't go grocery shopping without them. I still buy the store brand for some items though (like condiments). Anyway, I recently found that my favorite store (Kroger) has coupons for their brand. You have to go to their website to order them and wait for them to be mailed. They have a different selection every week and it takes about 1-2 weeks. But the coupons are good for about 3mos.
From Melissa:
I save money when I buy worksheets for my son to develop his skills. I always have a roll of contact paper in the house to cover them front and back. He gets to use them over and over and if you need to it still makes great copies. Make sure you have dry-erase pens but regular markers work they just leave a residue. My son loves this and I do too b/c it is not wasting paper or money. He gets to build his skills. We also use the contact paper to save his arts/crafts and projects!
I want to thank everyone for their tips and hints, and please keep them coming!
