This lasagna-like main dish is made with large shell macaroni.
Prep Time: 15 minutes
Cook Time: 30 minutes
Ingredients:
- 1 12-ounce package large shell macaroni
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1/2 chopped onion
- garlic to taste
- 1 14-ounce jar spaghetti sauce
- 1 cup ricotta or cottage cheese
- 2 cups shredded cheese, (I used cheddar, but mozzarella would be good, too)
- Grated Parmesan cheese
Preparation:
Brown ground beef, onion and garlic; drain fat. Stir in spaghetti sauce; simmer for about 10 minutes. Meanwhile, cook macaroni according to directions on the package. Remove and set aside one cup of the meat sauce. Add macaroni to remaining meat sauce and mix. Place 1/2 of the meat/macaroni mixture in the bottom of a 9x13 inch baking dish. Spread ricotta or cottage cheese over this. Sprinkle with 1 cup shredded cheese. Add remaining meat/macaroni mixture, cover with the 1 cup remaining meat sauce, and top with remaining cheese. Bake for about 1/2 hour at 350. Let it stand 5-10 minutes before serving.
